CBA Boycott Begins

Bank Reform Now CEO Dr Peter Brandson has today released the details of a nationwide boycott of the Commonwealth Bank (CBA). The campaign - dubbed the "Big Bank BANG" - has been eagerly awaited by those increasingly concerned about the Australian government's weak response to revelations of organised crime in the finance sector.

"Banks must see and feel the consequences of their predatory behaviour. It's not just individual clients that are being continuously fleeced. Our country is being systematically and gradually stripped of assets and sovereignty - it is time to take meaningful action." he said

BRN claims that the finance sector takes a far bigger proportion of the nation's GDP than is reasonable or justifiable. Much of the profits are a direct result of criminal, unethical and unconscionable behaviour as is being seen every day during the current Hayne Banking Royal Commission. "Rate rigging, money laundering, asset stripping of the aged, predatory lending, fees for no service, perjury & deception from bankers and their lawyers, insurance and planner scandals all make it clear that the industry is out of control and free to damage all of us." Dr Brandson said.

"From today we hope the general attitude becomes .... Want a loan? No way with CBA (#NoWayCBA).

No new CBA home loans.
No new CBA car loans.
No new CBA personal loans
No new CBA business loans
No new CBA credit cards.

We are asking people to use other financial institutions preferably a credit union or other non big four provider."

"We have made it as simple as possible - people can keep their current CBA accounts - we understand that the banks make it difficult to change. You can also continue with the loans you already have with CBA. All we want you and your friends & family to do is not take any new loans from CBA."

"The government and its regulatory agencies have failed. Decades of crimes and corruption have gone undetected and unpunished. The reason for the current Hayne inquiry is in large part due to the failure of agencies such as ASIC and APRA."

The Big Bank BANG was initially scheduled to begin with NAB but during the year long countdown CBA's conduct was clearly shown to be so outlandish it was decided to switch banks and extend the countdown to April 22 - CBA CEO Ian Narev's birthday. Coincidentally CBA decided to remove Narev just two weeks before the BANG. Unfortunately for the bank changing CEOs doesn't change the culture or compensate the victims. Dr Brandson has said that the government will never do the job required. Only public pressure applied to one bank at a time will show the banks and Mr Turnbull that the people are not going to accept being robbed by the criminals in the banking system. "The government just gazing, willfully blind at the devastation caused to families and businesses is just not acceptable or tolerable any longer."
